Bruce W. Burroughs of Newport, NH passed away peacefully at his home following an illness on March 16, 2024 at the age of 77 surrounded by his loving family.  Bruce was born November 27, 1946 in Woodsville, NH to Clifford and Eleanor (Sargent) Burroughs. Bruce grew up in Cornish, NH and was a 1966 graduate of Stevens High School.  Following high school, Bruce enlisted in the U.S. Army, completing basic training at Ft. Dix and was most proudly a unit armorer in charge of cold weather weapons testing stationed at Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. Upon honorable discharge from the Army in 1969 he married his high school sweetheart, Goldie (Nash) and together they shared nearly 55 years of wedded bliss.  Bruce proudly served the State of New Hampshire for 37 years retiring as the Chief of Tramway and Amusement ride safety.

He was widely known as an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and outdoorsman.  Bruce had endless tales of his hunting exploits that were known far and wide by all those who shared in his passion.  In retirement he became a master wood turner and enjoyed sharing and teaching his skill to anyone who wanted to learn. His passion in hunting later led him to establish B&G Smokehouse where he processed and smoked all kinds of wild and domestic game. Those who knew Bruce also knew his extreme fondness of dogs with some of his favorites being Duchess, Winston, Molly and finally Gracie.

He is predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Eleanor Burroughs and sister, Barbara Burroughs. He is survived by his loving wife Goldie, their 3 children, Marcy Burroughs and her partner, Keith Friend, James Burroughs and his wife Stacey, and Kristin Burroughs; 7 grandchildren, Malia, Andrew, Hunter, Victoria, Bryce, Sophie, Jackson and 4 great grandchildren, Nyla, Adaleya, Leyton, and Ledger. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly and Joseph Digilio of Newbury, NH and Wayne Wheeler of Plainfield, NH as well as many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Services will be held at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont, NH on Thursday, March 21, 2024.  Calling hours will be from 1pm-3pm, service to follow at 3pm. Reception will follow at the Claremont Senior Center, 5 Acer Heights, Claremont, NH.
