It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dearly departed, Carol Jean Kangas, in the early hours of March 19th, 2026.

Carol, the 2nd of six Therrien children, was born on October 10, 1953, in Claremont, NH to William and Rachel Therrien.  She grew up on Plains Rd. in Claremont next to the Coy Paper mill where her father worked.

She attended the Little Red Schoolhouse in West Claremont and graduated from Stevens High School in 1971.

Carol started her career as a bookkeeper at Topstone furniture on Mulberry St, but the bulk of her career was spent as a paralegal secretary for Witkus, Wilson and Weidman Law offices in Newport, NH. and then branching off and following Jon Weidman to open Connecticut Valley Title Services.  She retired in 2021 after working a short stint with Hudkins Law and Title but then decided to take a part-time position at the Law Offices of Work & Clark in Newport, NH until she fell ill in January of 2026.  She had an amazing work ethic and keen eye for details and will be missed dearly by all those she worked with in the local industry.

Carol had a deep love for animal rescue, which all her pets came from, and she manifested a long-time dream of having her own horses when she rescued Nikki and Eddie.   It was of utmost importance in her last days to know where all her pets would end up.   She was also a longtime cyclist and rode a few 50-mile Prouty bike rides to raise money for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center of Dartmouth after her first battle with a cancer diagnosis.  She would also fill those years with running in local 5k's, Harpoon being one of her favorites as she always loved a good IPA.  Carol loved nature's beauty in all its splendor, which is reflected in her paintings, photography, nature observations, and through their home and landscaping on the Cold River in South Acworth.  She also had a very diverse taste in music where her shadow side could be expressed through her love of hard rock and heavy metal.  She will be remembered for her uniqueness, two shits attitude, ease of laughter, kindness, and her love and enjoyment for sister's day, time with her family and friends new and old (especially the 4-legged furry ones)

Family survivors include her husband of 28 years, Richard Kangas of South Acworth, NH; daughter, Kelly Genes(Jeremy Schaefer) of Claremont, NH; daughter, Kristina (Kasey) Silver of Marlow, NH; grandchildren Devin Genes of Keene, NH; Avery, Jovie, and Gavin Silver of Marlow, NH; Sisters, Rachel (Roland)  Paquette of Milford, NH; Donna (Fred) Hallock of Lyman, NH; Dianne (Gary) Swinyer of Charlestown, NH; Brothers, William (Kim) Therrien of Claremont, NH; Bruce (Helen) Therrien of Claremont, NH.

Visiting hours will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home on 146 Broad Street in Claremont, NH on Thursday, March 26th from 4 to 6PM. Funeral services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Carol's memory to your local animal rescue.  A few that she personally supported were Lucy Mackenzie Animal Rescue in Brownsville, Vt; Wags N' Wiggles in Newport, NH and the NHSPCA.
