David Herbert Chase, 76, of Claremont, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with a sudden illness at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care.

Born on May 3, 1950, in Claremont, New Hampshire, David was the son of Herbert and Gisele (Pepin) Chase. He was the second oldest of six children and spent his childhood in Claremont, where he attended St. Mary's Catholic School before graduating in 1968. He continued his education at Keene State College, earning a Bachelor's degree in History.

Following college, David devoted more than 50 years to the family business, Chase the Mover, where he became known for his dependability, strong work ethic, and commitment to serving generations of families throughout the region.

On July 2, 2006, David married the love of his life, Sandy (Ohannessian) Chase. Together they built a life centered on family, friendship, and enjoying life's simple pleasures. David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; his daughter, Raquel Chase-Kelly, and her husband, John; and his beloved grandchildren, Graham and Claire, who brought him immeasurable pride and joy. He loved watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments, and spending every opportunity he could with them. David was the kind of father his family could always count on. Steady, dependable, and unwavering in his love, he never missed his weekly Sunday phone call with Raquel—a tradition that became one of life's constants and a treasured reminder that family always came first.

He is also survived by his siblings, Michael Chase and his wife, Susan; Peter Chase and his wife, Patricia; Alan Chase and his wife, Susan; Ann (Chase) Woodburn; and Jeffrey Chase and his wife, Karen, and his brother-in-law Edward Ohannessian and his wife, Cindy, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Gisele Chase.

David found joy in life's everyday moments. He was well known for his homemade spaghetti sauce, which became a treasured family tradition. He enjoyed playing poker and cribbage with friends at the Claremont Elks Lodge, where he was an active member and trustee and generously gave his time to support many events throughout the years. He also looked forward to his daily breakfasts with friends, valuing the conversations and friendships they shared.

An avid hunter for many years, David also had a passion for keeping cars in immaculate condition. There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending hours meticulously cleaning his own vehicles. After retiring from Chase the Mover, he turned that passion into a small detailing hobby, taking great pride in making every vehicle look its very best.

When he wasn't with family or friends, David enjoyed life's quieter pleasures. He loved settling into a good book and could often be found relaxing in the sunshine, content to spend a peaceful afternoon reading and soaking up a warm summer day. One of David's greatest companions was his beloved dog, Ruby. Their daily walks brought him tremendous happiness and became one of the simple routines he cherished most.

David will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering reliability, and the love he showed through everyday acts of kindness rather than grand gestures. Whether preparing a pot of spaghetti sauce for his family, lending a helping hand, spending time with friends, or simply making his weekly Sunday phone call, he demonstrated that love is often found in consistency, presence, and caring for others.

His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply, the friendships he nurtured throughout his life, and the example he set of living with humility, integrity, and devotion to those who mattered most.

Those wishing to honor David's memory are invited to make a memorial donation to Toys for Tots, a cause that he donated to for over 20 years, or to the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care, whose extraordinary compassion and care brought comfort to David and his family.

Visiting hours will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont, NH on Wednesday, July 8th from 5pm to 7pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, July 9th at 11am at St. Mary Church on Central Street in Claremont, NH. Burial will follow in the West Claremont Burying Grounds in West Claremont.
