Ellis S. McLaughlin Jr, 76, of Claremont NH, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on January 28, 2025.

Ellis was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine, the son of Ellis S. McLaughlin Sr. and Theresa Paradis.

Ellis attended Maloney High School in Meriden, CT before joining the Navy in 1967, and was assigned to the USS San Diego AFS-6 until honorably discharged in 1973.  Ellis worked at Times Wire in Wallingford, CT, owned Q-Stick Billiard Parlor in Claremont, NH and retired from Sturm Ruger in Newport, NH.

Ellis loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and spent many afternoons fishing.  Ellis loved playing pool and brought his family from Connecticut to Claremont, where he opened Q-Stick Billiard Parlor, fulfilling his dream of owning a pool hall.  Ellis was a talented painter and used oils and acrylics to paint landscapes and "happy little trees".

While Ellis enjoyed many hobbies his greatest love was his family.  He was a loving husband to Sharon Kafka McLaughlin, his wife of almost 54 years. Together Ellis and Sharon created a warm and loving home to their two children Melanie and Dawn.  The addition of grandchildren and his great granddaughter provided Ellis a tremendous source of pride and joy.  He loved spending time fishing and painting with the kids.

Ellis is survived by his daughter Melanie Brown and her husband Shane, daughter Dawn Churchill and her husband Colin, grandchildren David Small Jr., Austin Morton, Nikolas Morton, Alexis Bent, Olivia Churchill, and Jaxon Churchill, great granddaughter Autumn Bent, sisters Donna Payne, Debra Kollasch and her husband Michael (Doc), sisters in law Kathleen Judkins and her husband Ronald, Suzanne Camire and her husband Thomas, Cynthia Kafka and her partner Gary Bellemare, and Allison Barillaro and her husband Daniel, and nieces and nephews.

Ellis was predeceased by his wife, Sharon K. McLaughlin, his parents Ellis and Theresa McLaughlin and his brothers Thomas and Steven McLaughlin.

Calling hours are on Saturday February 8, 2025 from 10 AM – 11 AM followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 AM at Stringer Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellis's memory may be directed to Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHAD) Child Life Program, an organization near and dear to his heart.
