Gary Robert Janicke 76, suddenly passed away March 30th, 2024, at his longtime home in Goshen, NH.

Gary was born in Manchester, CT to Robert and Elois "Chickie" Janicke. During his teenage years he was known as somewhat of a hellion, palling around with his buddies Phil and Bill in East Hartford, CT.  Shortly after attending Manchester High School, he was drafted into the Army and shipped off to proudly serve in Vietnam.  While he never liked to recall his time overseas, he did like to tell of turning 21 while floating down the Saigon River and how he once punched his CO in the mouth.  Near the end of his tour, he sustained severe injuries to both legs and was told he may never walk again. Gary proved the doctors wrong, a testament to his determination and stubbornness.  He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Upon returning home, Gary met the love of his life, Linda (Lavoie) Janicke, and they married in January of 1970.  They decided they liked to be referred to as flatlanders and moved to Goshen, NH after falling in love with a rundown, 200-year-old farmhouse.  They spent the next 50 years turning it into a home.  For the 54 years they were married, they were inseparable. You never saw Gary without Linda.

Gary loved NH and became an avid and experienced outdoorsman.   He spent much of his free time hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking, riding ATVs, walking his dogs, being out in nature up in the mountain he knew so well, or hanging out on the "Goshen Ocean".  When not on the mountain Gary loved the actual ocean, and spent many years going to Quonochontaug Beach in Rhode Island, surfcasting for flounder and the occasional striper.  Drakes Island in Maine was also a favorite, where he and Linda would take day trips to play in the surf.

An avid football and more importantly Patriots fan, Gary also loved watching his boys, and then his grandkids at sporting events.  A well-known and easily recognizable figure around the towns athletic fields for decades.

Gary was a devoted, loving, and loyal family man to his entire family, especially to his sons Josh and Garret.  They shared an engrained love for the outdoors and being outside, whether it be hunting, skiing, hiking, or just sitting outside in the sun, chatting, and having a beer in his "woodshed dining" area. Gary eagerly took on the role of "Opa" with the births of his four grandchildren.  He spent as much time as he could teaching them about the outdoors and nature, watching them at their games, and just watching them grow.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda, his son Joshua and wife Katy, his son Garret and wife Melissa, and his four grandchildren, Darren, Kylie, Malia and Gunnar.

A Celebration of Life will be determined and announced for an upcoming date.
