George Edward Veilleux, 86, beloved husband of Suzanne (Lambert) Veilleux, of Claremont, NH died on September 12, 2023, surrounded by generations of loving family members. George, born February 22, 1937, in Claremont, was the oldest of Arthur and Doris Veilleux's seven children. He attended St. Mary's High School and graduated from St. Anselm's College in 1959. Upon graduation, he married his high school sweetheart and served in the United States Army. He had a long career in life insurance and financial advising, going above and beyond to help people navigate their financial security. George was involved in numerous civic activities, including being an active participant in the Claremont Rotary Club for many years. When needed, he was always available to lend a helping hand.

Many of George's favorite activities took place outdoors. He was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed hiking, fishing, hunting, and cross-country skiing. On any given Saturday throughout his life, George could be found splitting wood, canoeing, or enjoying a bonfire in "the field" with his family and friends. George, especially, delighted in sharing his passion and knowledge of nature, birds, and wildlife with his children and many grandchildren. Countless peoples' lives have been touched by George's generosity, kindness and guidance.

George's family carries on his memory lovingly, including his wife of 62 years, Suzanne; his daughter Kathryn and her husband, Ken Chadwick of Harvard, MA, their three sons; Ryan (and wife, Alice), Michael, and Ethan (and wife, Alyssa); his son, Peter Veilleux of Oakland, CA; his daughter, Beth and her husband Mike Lemieux of Claremont, their three children; Eric, Emily (husband Alex Baldwin and their son Ryder), and Rachael (and fiance Stuart Roye), and his daughter Tricia and her husband, Sean Riley of Stowe, VT and their three children; Will, Katy, and Henry. George is also survived by siblings; Robert Veilleux of Hooksett, NH, his sisters Lorraine Potvin of Claremont NH, Claire Denenberg of Plattsburgh, NY, Lucille LeClair of Lonoke, AK, Anita Hayes of Springfield MA, sister-in-law Anita Veilleux, and brother-in-law Mike Lambert of Peterborough, NH. He is predeceased by his brother Henry Veilleux of Claremont. George was "Uncle George" to many nieces and nephews and was fondly known as "Mr. Veilleux " and "Papérè" to countless numbers of his children's and grandchildren's friends as well as many exchange students from countries all over the world. One of the greatest joys of George's life was spending time with family and friends, always warmly welcoming everyone to their home to swim, ski, have a cookout, or just gather to enjoy each other's company. To borrow a phrase often heard from George himself, "He was a good egg."  The best, in fact. As George was known to say, "Stay out of trouble and KEEP SMILING."

Visiting hours will be September 19, 2023, from 5 - 7 p.m. at Stringer Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 20 at St. Mary's Church on Central St. in Claremont at 11 a.m. There will be a celebration of life following the committal service at the Lemieux's property at 519 Jarvis Hill Road, Claremont NH.
