Howard A. Bowie Jr., 78, of Charlestown, NH passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on February 28, 2026.

He was born on February 15, 1948, and was raised in Weare, New Hampshire. Howard later spent 45 years living in Claremont, New Hampshire before eventually making his home in Charlestown, New Hampshire.

Howard was a very tall, big man whose personality was just as large as his physical presence. Known to many as "Bo" or "Huggie," he had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Howard was predeceased by his parents, Howard  A. Bowie and Margaret (Bowie) Coles (née Kimball), and by his beloved wife of 50 years, Norma "Chicky" A. (Ferland) Bowie.

He is survived by his two children, Howard A. Bowie III and Sara J. (Bowie) Svendsen; and by his two cherished grandchildren, Eleanor Bowie and Anthony Boyens.

Throughout his life, Howard worked in several occupations. In his early years he logged alongside his father and later spent many years as a truck driver. He was widely known for his mechanical and welding abilities, with a particular talent for working on heavy-duty equipment.

Howard enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing, and trap shooting. He was also an active member of his community, proudly serving in officer roles at both the Claremont Moose Lodge and the Claremont Elks Lodge.

A small graveside service will be held to lay Howard and his wife to rest together on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Section A, Lot 47.

Howard will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his escapades, and the legendary stories that will live on through those who knew & loved him.
