Irene Whalen, 81 of Newport NH passed away peacefully on September 8, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Irene was born on December 30, 1939 in Newport NH, to the late Fred and Doris Johnson. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Whalen,3 ^rd and her son Gary Philbrook, Jr.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and playing Bingo as often as possible and going to the casino. She played on bowling leagues for many years. In summers she went to many local fairs.

She is survived by her loving and devoted children: Marlene Hamilton of Coventry RI, Donna Whalen of Newport NH, Sheryl Whalen of Claremont, NH and Clifford Whalen of Newport NH. Also by six sisters: Lillian Babbitt of Charlestown NH, Patricia Locke of Springfield VT, Dorothy Waterman of Florida, Susan Barton of Newport NH, Fredericka Choinere of Charlton MA, and Jeanette Langlois of Newport NH. She has numerous nieces and nephews, ten wonderful grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

There will be no visitation hours. A graveside burial service for family and friends will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery Newport NH, on September 18 ^th at 11 AM. A reception will follow at the Newport Senior Center.
