Jack J. McKenzie Sr, 88, of Claremont, New Hampshire, passed away on September 13, 2025, at Valley Regional Hospital after taking a fall in his home a week earlier. Jack spent nearly his entire life living in Claremont, except for a few years, after retiring he moved to Unity and then to Keene NH.  His strong sense of family and friends brought him back to Claremont NH where he enjoyed his final years.

Born on November 17, 1936, Jack was a graduate of Stevens High School, Class of 1955 and was proud to have been a football player on their championship team. He married Carol J. Stacy in 1956.  Carol passed away in February of 2015. He is survived by his children Gail McKenzie and her partner Bart Dole, of Cornish Flat NH, Jack (Jake) McKenzie Jr and his partner Jana Barry of Homosassa Florida, Karen Brock and her husband Norris of Tunbridge VT, and Cathy Hilgendorf of Candler, NC. Jack is also survived by three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents, William and Grace (Bushway) McKenzie, as well as his brother William McKenzie and two half-brothers, Ronald and Victor.  He is survived by two sisters, Grace Adams of South Royalton, VT and Gloria Perkins and her husband Bob of Dunnellon, FL.

Jack's independent spirit was evident throughout his life. He farmed, worked at the local paper mill, and went on to proudly own and operate small businesses, including McKenzie Septic and Excavating, McKenzie Portable Toilet Rentals which included rentals of dance floors and party tents. He and his son, Jake, owned and operated McKenzie Septic Service together for many years before Jack sold his portion of the business to Jake and became fully retired.

Jack was a member of the Claremont Lion's Club for many years.  He also enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends.  Jack was a well-known coon hunter and then bear hunter in the Sullivan and Grafton County area.  He trained his dogs himself and liked to brag about how many coon and/or bear he and his friends tagged during the past hunting season(s).

A graveside service will be held on September 26th at 11AM at Mountain View Cemetery in Claremont.
