James "Jim" Lanou, 75, of Claremont, NH, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and a lifelong love of racing. He was born on March 1, 1950, in Bellows Falls, Vermont, to Henry and Flora Lanou.

From a young age, Jim worked alongside his father and grandfather in the family wood business, learning the value of dedication and craftsmanship. He later became a mechanic at Fall Mountain Ford and went on to hold various positions at Tenney Lumber mill and Cheever Tire in Bellows Falls. Known by many as "Mr. Fix-It," Jim was a master fabricator who could repair or build just about anything.

Jim ultimately pursued his true passion- racing. Alongside his wife, Sherrie Fleury-Lanou, he was co-owner of Claremont Speedway for many years. He was also an avid race car driver and devoted himself to anything and everything racing. He was very proud he was able to place ALL of his children in victory lane! Jim could often be found in "the garage," working with his own family of race car drivers and helping anyone who needed it. He had the biggest heart and was always willing to lend a hand.

After Jim and Sherrie sold the track, he "retired"—only to return to work at another lumber mill, because he simply loved working with wood. He finished his career at G.H. Evarhart's in Springfield, NH. Eventually, Jim truly retired and spent his days doing what he loved most: tinkering in his garage, fixing everything from lawnmowers to dump trucks. There was nothing he couldn't work on.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Sherrie Fleury-Lanou; his sons, Steven (Heather) and Jamie (Bethaney); his daughter, Jackie (Nick); his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. And a special friend & neighbor Mike Griggs.  Jim was predeceased by his parents, brother Henry & son, Joseph Lanou as well as his beloved dog, Mr. G.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Stringer Funeral Home in Claremont, New Hampshire, from 12- 2:00 p.m. It will be very casual, as Jim would have it no other way. All are welcome to attend and share their stories and memories of Jim. A private family burial will be held later.
