Jo-Anna Marie Chaw was born on 5/17/55 in Concord, NH as the youngest of seven children.  Her father George Leroy English finally got his red-headed baby!  Mr. English was 61 years old when Jo-Anna was born and he died when she was quite young.  In time, her mother, Phyllis May English married George's best friend Robert Evens who raised Jo-Anna as his little girl.

On 5/2/80 Jo-Anna became Mrs. Manuel Ernest Chaw.  Together they had six children, two of which passed away while infants. The names of her surviving children are: Azuana Chaw, Bonita Chaw, Titianna Baker and Tyrone English.

Jo-Anna attended nursing college in Montana receiving her LNA and RN licenses.  After graduation she presented her diploma to her stepdad as he had sacrificed so much for her to attend college.  Jo-Anna was able to use her nursing skills to care for him during his last days and later cared for others in a nursing home.

In the 1990's, Jo-Anna was involved in a major car accident in which she was pronounced dead but was able to be resuscitated. This accident left her with lifelong medical issues.  Her mother cared for Jo-Anna after she returned home from the hospital while also raising her grandchildren.

Since the 1990's Jo-Anna has been in and out of hospitals most of her life. In time she moved into Sugar River Mills in Claremont and later in 2017 to the Earl Bordon Center where she resided until going to the Sullivan County Health Center where she died on February 23, 2024, as a result of complications with liver cancer.

Jo-Anna has known about Jesus all of her life.  But recently realized that she had a void in her life, asked for forgiveness for her sins, accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior, and gave her life to Him in 2022.

Jo-Anna is survived by her four children, and several grandchildren.

Friends may pay their last respects to Jo-Anna at Stringer Funeral Home at 12pm on Wednesday, February 28.  A committal service will follow at the Union Cemetery on Old Church Road in Claremont at 1pm.  A future memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Steven Cook at Calvary Baptist Church on a day still to be determined.
