On June 23, 2026, John W. Cleveland, 68, passed away at home following several months of declining health.

John graduated in 1976 from Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Bourne, Massachusetts, and went on to study for a year at Johnson & Wales Culinary Institute in Providence, Rhode Island. He took immense pride in being a true jack of all trades. Throughout his working years, he held many positions, including mechanic, farmhand, pipe layer, cook, and, during his early years in Virginia, sheet metal worker and welder on submarines.

John was married twice and had two children from his first marriage, Heather and John. He was a proud grandfather of seven and cherished every opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren. Some of his favorite pastimes included shooting pool, cooking and tinkering with anything mechanical. He was also a proud lifetime member of the Franklin Elks Lodge #1280 before transferring his membership to the Claremont Elks Lodge, where he continued to enjoy the friendship and camaraderie of fellow members.

John had a deep love for Hawaii and dreamed of its peaceful beauty. He was especially fond of dolphins, which reflected his appreciation for the ocean and the sense of peace it brought him. No matter what challenges life placed before him, those who knew John knew they could always count on seeing him with a smile on his face. His positive spirit, resilience, and ability to find joy even during challenging times were among the many qualities that made him so special.

John appreciated the many friendships and acquaintances he made throughout his years. He was a kind-hearted man, who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be remembered for his hearty, unmistakable laugh—you always knew when John had entered the room.

John is survived by his daughter, Heather Gaspar and her husband, Tyler; his son, John Cleveland and his wife, Beth; his beloved grandchildren, Izaiah, Caleb, Caelin, Lucas, Alex, Jenny, and Jessie; his five sisters, Glenda, Lydia, Billie-Jo, Faith, and Mary; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Frances Cleveland.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Franklin Elks Lodge, 125 South Main Street, Franklin, New Hampshire 03235.

In honor of John, those attending are encouraged to come together to share stories, laughter, and memories of a man whose kindness, generosity, infectious smile, and unforgettable laugh touched so many lives.
