Joyce Brassaw, 88 of Claremont, NH passed away Monday 2025 September 1st ,2025 at Sullivan County Health Care of Unity NH.

Joyce was born in Claremont, N H on April 11th, 1937.  She was raised by her parents Harold and Pansy Penniman of Claremont, NH.  She had two brothers, Roger and David.  She graduated from Stevens High School in the class of 1955.

She went on from Stevens to go to Hesser College in Manchester, NH graduating with an associate's degree.  She worked for several years in the Claremont area as a secretary, insurance agent, and banker.

She married her first husband Sulo Kanto, July 20, 1957.  They lived in Claremont and raised their two children, Kim and Richard, in Claremont.

Her second husband was Arthur "Bones" Brassaw of Charlestown.  She married him April 23, 1982.  They lived in Charlestown and later in life at the Earl M. Bourdon Center for several years.  They spent many years together camping, traveling and making a home on Calavant Hill in Charlestown on Cardinal Lane.  They enjoyed their home there and the life they built.  They were members of several clubs in Claremont including the Elks, VFW and American Legion.

Joyce loved her family, being with her friends, and socializing.   She especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately called her GG.  She loved to feed the birds and watch them from her window.  She was especially fond of hummingbirds and cardinals.  Her greatest joy was being around other people and her family.

Joyce was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Mary's parish in Claremont.  She attended mass regularly.

Joyce is survived by her daughter Kim Therrien and her husband William Therrien of Claremont.  Her son Richard Kanto and his wife Carol of Newport, NH.  Her grandchildren Gregory Therrien and his wife Lisa Therrien of Antrim, NH.  Granddaughter Michelle Cole of Hillsboro and her fiancé Mike Luciano. Granddaughter Cally Chamberlain, her husband Travis Chamberlain of Unity, NH, her Grandson Richard Kanto II of North Brookfield, MA. Great Granddaughters Cassidy Larrison, Candace Ranger, Taylin Chamberlain.  Great Grandsons Cote Larrison, Gregory Therrien, Travis Chamberlain, Logan Sanborn, and Owen Cole.  Stepdaughters, Diane Walker of Claremont, Denise Freak-Evenson and husband Mark of Sebastian Florida, and Donna Poelman and husband Doug of Knoxville, TN. Nieces Linda French and Karen Mooring of Arizona.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH on Thursday morning Sept. 18th from 9:30 to 10:30AM.  A Mass at St Mary's church of Claremont will follow at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be on Friday Sept 19th, 12:00 noon at the NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH
