Leo T. Abbott, of Claremont, NH, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. He was 88 years old. Leo was born in Rutland, VT, on May 30, 1937, to Ronald and Alice Abbott. He was one of five children and was raised in a family that valued hard work and community.

Leo graduated from Rutland High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he proudly served from 1956 to 1962. After his service, Leo pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from the University of Vermont. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from McGill University in Montreal, graduating on May 30, 1969.

In 1976, Leo opened Claremont Family Dentistry on Myrtle Street in Claremont, NH. He was known for his deep commitment to the well-being of his patients, and many considered him a trusted friend as much as a dentist. Leo closed his practice in April of 2025 to spend more time with his beloved family.

A lifelong supporter of the U.S. Marine Corps, Leo was dedicated to the Toys for Tots program for over 30 years. He cherished his monthly meetings with fellow Marines, always looking forward to the camaraderie and service to the community. His legacy in both his professional and personal life will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Leo was predeceased by his parents Alice and Ronald, two brothers, Larry and Ronald, and a sister, Franny. He is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene; his daughter, Kristin Shedd, of Colorado; his son, Thomas Abbott, of Alaska; three stepsons, Scott Darrell, Wendall Darrell, and Christopher Gilman; his sister, Arbor Abbott, of Massachusetts; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Leo was an avid reader who enjoyed spending time outdoors, often found tinkering in his garage or working with his tractor. He also loved working alongside his wife, Darlene, at Claremont Family Dentistry, where their bond was not only personal but professional. Leo was known for his warm and engaging nature, often spending 45 minutes chatting with his patients before getting to the work at hand. His kindness and humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held on November 8, 2025, 2:00pm at Lower Cemetery in Langdon, NH, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Claremont Country Club in Claremont, NH. Leo's life was a testament to service, love, and dedication, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
