Madeline Barbieri, 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 3, 2025. With compassionate care of six dedicated home nursing professionals, she was able to enjoy her lasts days at home with the people she loved.

Born in Claremont, Madeline was the daughter of Carminie and Mary Marro. She was a proud graduate of Stevens High School, Class of 1945, and a lifelong member of the Claremont community.

After graduating, Madeline began her long career with New England Telephone (later AT&T), where she served as a devoted switchboard operator for 45 years. Known for her selflessness and kind heart, she frequently volunteered for holiday and weekend shifts so younger colleagues could spend time with their families. Though she had no children of her own, she extended maternal warmth and generosity to all who knew her.

A devout parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, Madeline volunteered her time generously, including decorating the church for holiday services—a task she took great pride in along with being a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

In 1963, she married the love of her life, Peter Barbieri, a kind and hardworking Italian gentleman. Together they traveled often to Peter's family home in Parma, Italy, and spent their retirement winters in Naples, Florida. They remained devoted to one another until Peter's passing in 2010.

Madeline was a gifted cook, especially known for her traditional Italian dishes and desserts. Her home was often filled with the comforting aromas of pasta sauce and fresh-baked sweets, and she took great joy in hosting large family gatherings. She treasured the friendship of her neighbor, Inez Pushee, whose companionship brought her comfort and joy, especially in her later years.

Madeline was the last surviving member of the Marro family, which included seven brothers and three sisters. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Carminie and Mary, as well as her siblings: Dominic, Charles, Joseph, Anthony, Paul, Albert, Nicholas, Marion, Katherine (Marro) Moore, and Carmella (Marro) Tenney.

Though she leaves no immediate family, Madeline is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and their children, all of whom carry forward her legacy of kindness, generosity, and strength.

Visiting hours will be at the Stringer Funeral Home, Broad Street, Claremont NH on Friday evening, May 16th from 5pm-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, 58 Elm Street, Claremont, on Saturday, May 17th at 11:00am, followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery.
