Marlene Janice Lorenc, of Claremont, NH, passed away at Sullivan County Nursing home, March 30, 2023. Marlene was born in St.Albans, Vermont on March 15, 1938, to Clifford and Ruth Jewett. She and her four siblings, Vivian, Jerry, Anne, and Austin grew up in the mountains of Vermont.

In 1953, the family moved to Southington, Connecticut, where she attended Southington High School. She spent most of her high school years on the Majorette team where she became the leader. She loved marching in parades, twirling her baton. Marlene graduated in 1956.

Marlene was employed at Acme and Monaco Spring in New Britian, Connecticut for over thirty years. She then retired at age 65 and moved to Claremont in 2001. After retiring, she went on to work at Marion Phillips apartment building in the maintenance department. She also enjoyed working at the soup kitchen prepping meals.

Marlene enjoyed spending time with her family and was a gifted poet. She also loved taking the family dog, Spaz for long walks and sitting by the Connecticut River to watch the birds. She loved puzzles and was always busy.

Marlene is survived by her sister, Vivian York, her brother Austin Jewett, her son, Ty Gardner and his wife, Barbra Gardner, her daughter Kelly Bates, and two grandchildren, Troy Wainscott, and Skye Bates, numerous nieces and nephews, including great nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to visit at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Friday evening April 7 ^th from 5 to 7 PM. Burial will be at a later date.
