Rita Arlene Fontaine, 96, died at her home in Claremont on September 28 ^th surrounded by her family.

Rita was born on June 4 ^th , 1926 in Claremont to Edmund and Elsie Girard, one of seven children. She was predeceased by 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

After finishing school in Claremont, Rita worked a short time for the Ideal Laundry and then in the kitchen at St. Mary High School. Rita married Donald B. Fontaine on Sept. 20 ^th , 1943. Rita and her husband of 77 years operated the family farm, worked in the logging and maple sugaring business.

In later years, Rita helped with the Christmas tree plantation. One of Rita's pleasures was talking to young people that came as children then brought back their own children to pick the family tree. Although Rita was accomplished in all aspects of life, her most important role was as Don's helpmate.

Rita was predeceased by her beloved husband, Don in 2021. She is survived by 3 sons, Donald Jr. and wife Anne, Peter and wife Elizabeth, Robin and wife Laurie; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Church in Claremont on October 15 ^th at 11 AM. Burial to follow in St Mary Cemetery.
