Robert Elwin Esdon, 91, of Charlestown NH passed away on January 11, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family and his books.  He was born in Greensboro VT on August 16, 1931, the son of George M. and Ada Esdon.  Robert grew up in Greensboro helping on the family farm.  He graduated from Hardwick Academy in 1949 and went on to attend Johnson Teacher College, graduating in 1953.  He taught in Woodstock and Barnard VT schools before joining the army.  He was honorable discharged in 1961.  After his time in the military, he taught at Murree Christian School in what was then known as West Pakistan.  It was there that he met and married his wife, Audrey Jennings.   They moved back to the United States in 1962 and started a family.  Robert worked at the Bridgewater school until the family moved to Hinesburg VT where he worked for the Richmond School District.  In 1970 he moved his family to Alstead NH.  He worked as a school librarian for the Fall Mountain Regional School District until his retirement in 1993.  During his time in Alstead, Robert earned his master's degree from the University of Rhode Island.  Robert was active in the local boy scout troops, receiving an Award of Merit from the Daniel Webster Council in 1987.  After retirement Robert traveled to Russia, England, Scotland, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.  He also  was a volunteer driver  for Meals on Wheels and the American Cancer Society Road to Recovery.  Robert was a member of First Congregational Church of Woodstock where he served as a deacon and on the library committee.  He is predeceased by his wife Audrey, and his sisters, Lynette, and Ruth.   Robert enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters Meaghan and Claire.  They always made him happy, and he was proud of all they did.

Survivors include his son James and his wife Leann of Claremont, his daughter Grace of Charlestown, his granddaughter Meaghan Laffin and her husband Justin, of Claremont, his granddaughter Claire Esdon of Claremont and great granddaughter Payson Dennison.  He was looking forward to meeting his second great granddaughter.  He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and a great nephew.

A committal service will be held later in the Spring.
