On Saturday, January 20th Roland "Rollie" Shute passed away following a period of failing health at Charlene Manor in Greenfield, MA. He was born on June 8, 1932, the son of Merle and Alice Shute in Unity, NH. He graduated from Stevens High School in Claremont, NH in 1952. He was a proud veteran having served in the Army for 2 years from 1953 to 1955.

Rollie married Gail J. Goodrich on October 18. 1958. They moved to Greenfield, MA with their 4 children in 1964 where they spent 65 happy years together. Rollie was employed for several years at Millers Falls Tool Company. Following this he had a 25 year career with Prudential, retiring on June 10, 1994.

Dad had a love for golf and spent much of his retirement on a golf course. If he wasn't playing golf, he was watching golf matches on television. He served on the board at the Greenfield Country Club and established a great friendship at the club with Bucky O'Brien.  He was later employed by Crumpin Fox as a starter. Over the years he gained many golf "buddies" including Alfie Siano, Jordan Haskill, Chris Stoddard and John Demko who joined our father on many golf outings.

Dad was very proud to be an Army Veteran and a day did not go by without seeing him wear his Army baseball cap. He was a firm believer in all things made in America and a Ford man all the way (well until he bought that Toyota truck).  Dad loved to drive and road trips to Florida to visit friends and relatives was the destination of choice whenever possible.

Rollie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gail (Goodrich), his twin daughter Melinda Sullivan (husband Mark), daughter Heidi Gamelin (husband Steven) and son Todd Shute (wife Erin). He was predeceased by his twin daughter Melissa "Tish" Pease (husband Robert) in 2010, brothers Lawrence, Ted, and sisters Polly and Cynthia. He leaves his brother Robert Shute (wife Becky), brother Merle "Skip" Strout (wife Muriel) and brother in-law Bruce Goodrich (wife Sue). He is surrounded by many loving grandchildren Abigail, Meagan, Chelsea, Danielle, Paul, Sarah, Jacob and Amanda as well as 9 great-grandchildren with 1on the way and several nieces and nephews. They meant the world to him and he loved each and every one of them.

A special thank you to those who helped care for our Dad including Isis, Shawna, Nicole and Nichole from Guardian Angel Concierge Services LLC, Ann and Tina from Pioneer Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, Mericlay, Damarr and Neema from the VA in Leeds and the entire nursing staff on Unit 1 at Charlene Manor. The care and commitment provided to Dad's care was exceptional and we are forever grateful.

Visiting hours will be held at the Stringer's Funeral Home 146 Broad Street in Claremont, NH on Monday, January 29th from 10 to 11 am with a brief service at 11am.  Burial will follow in the West Claremont Burying Grounds.
