Ruth Mary (Blomquist) Bailey, 83, of Charlestown, NH, passed away at Darthmouth Hitchcock Medical Center surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 following a brief illness.  She was born in Newport, NH on October 17, 1939, the daughter of U. Walter and Frances (Cutting) Blomquist.

Ruth was an avid sports fan, with a particular fondness for baseball and football.  She was a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.  Some of Ruth's happiest times were when the Red Sox and Patriots both won their championships during 2004!   Whenever anyone would visit, there would be sports on the tv, whether it be a baseball game (the Red Sox, of course, if they were playing), a football game (she watched them all), Red Sox spring training, Patriots during pre-season, women's softball, gymnastics or even golf.  She was also a cat enthusiast.  In recent months, she had learned how to navigate Facebook and would enjoy viewing all the local cat rescues.  She also loved viewing her family's posts and seeing pictures of her great-granddaughters brought her much joy.

She is survived by her loving husband, Stephen R. Bailey, to whom she was married for 63 years.  Other surviving family members include son, Stephen R. Bailey, Jr. and wife, Clair Bailey, of Plainville, CT; daughter, Camilla R. Bailey, and wife Lisa Shaw of Claremont, NH; and son, Shane W. Bailey and wife Rose Bailey, of Newport, NH; grandchildren, Jennifer Bailey, Kyle Wadleigh (Lindsay), Ryan Bailey and Kira Middleton (Ethan), great grandchildren, Ella Wadleigh, Quinn  Wadleigh and Olivia Middleton;  sister, Karol Blomquist Paduch, brother David Blomquist and nephew Michael Gagnon (Adrienne).

She was predeceased by sister, Joanne Blomquist Gagnon and nephew, Christopher Scott Paduch.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Claremont Senior Center on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 2-5.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her memory to the Sullivan County Human Society, 14 Tremont Street, Claremont, NH 03743, from where she adopted her loving cat, Meko.
