Ruth Naomi Green Rollins of South Cornish, died on October 18, 2023 at age 95 ½.

Ruth was born in New London, NH on April 13, 1928, the daughter of John and Ina Green and attended New London schools until 9th grade.

Ruth married Paul Leslie Rollins, August 2nd, 1944, celebrating 59 years of marriage while residing in Cornish.

During the 1940's she helped her husband on the family farm, worked at local shoe shops and operated Ruthie and Paulie's Lunch Stand, a quick food establishment on Route 120, where they built their own home.

Upon the birth of their son, Donald James, in March of 1954, Ruthie became as she would say "Just a Mom" until he entered Kindergarten.  She then took part-time work at George's Travel Lunch, where her hours allowed her to be home when Donnie was home.

When her son wanted to join Cub Scouts, she became involved and served Pack 332 as a Den Mother and Den Leader Coach for nine years. As a member of the District Committee, Ruth served as Round Table Commissioner and was involved.

in Pow Wow's, held training sessions, organized "School Night for Scouting" roundups with her husband and served several years as District Membership Chairman.

During the early years of the Cornish Fair, Ruth was a director.  She continued her involvement by serving as chairman of the Prince and Princess Contest, as well as the Children's section of the Fair Parade for many years as well as announcer of the parade for many years.  Ruth and her husband, Paul organized community Halloween parties for Cornish youngsters, to assure safety they held the events indoors.

Ruth was a recipient of the District Award of Merit and the prestigious Silver Beaver Award presented by Daniel Webster Council, Boy Scouts of America for exceptional service to youth.

Both Paul and Ruth were awarded the Non-Grange Member Community Citizen Award, presented by Cornish Grange No.25, in recognition of outstanding service to community and mankind.

Ruth was a caregiver to several people including her husband Paul at their home as he struggled with cancer.  She was always there for those in need – family or friends.

She was a member of the South Cornish Home Economics Club for 60 years, much of the time as President.

Ruth served her community as Chairman of Supervisors of the Checklist from 1976 - 2022. She was honored for her service and dedication in a town meeting in 2022.

She was a contributing writer for the Eagle Times newspaper from 1962 – 2004 covering local events, town and district meetings and many events that were youth related.  She enjoyed covering the Cornish Fair which involved many 4-H members, exhibitors and other events that drew thousands annually.

Ruth received the Boston Post Cane this year on her 95th birthday as the oldest living resident of Cornish.

Ruth is survived by several nieces and nephews which she loved very much as well as a nephew and other relatives in Prince Edward Island.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Paul on May 30,2002 and her only child, Donald on September 28,2002. Her sisters, Dorothy Noakes, Marie Jerard, Lillie Wilson and Bertha Sullivan.  Her brothers, Stanley Green, William Green and Norman Green and an infant brother, Raymond Green. Two very special nieces that lived with her when they were young, Kathleen Larkin and Phyllis Pickering.

Friends may call at Stringer Funeral Home on Friday, October 27th, 5PM to 7PM; graveside service will be at Edminster Cemetery Saturday, October 28th, at 2PM.  A celebration of the life of Ruth Rollins will follow at the Cornish Town Hall. It will be a potluck with everyone invited to bring a favorite dish to share.
