Susan Hope (Martin) Westney of North Walpole, NH beloved wife, mother, aunt, Nene, and friend passed away peacefully on February 2nd, 2023 with her soul mate, Richard, by her side.

Born in Burlington, VT she was the daughter of Francis & Irene (Vincent) Martin. A few years later the family moved south and settled in Acworth, NH. Susan graduated from Vilas High School in Alstead in 1965 and later attended a Community Leadership Program at Plymouth State College while her kids were busy attending grade and middle school.

Susan met the love of her life, Richard Westney, Sr., when he frequented the pharmacy where she worked in his hometown, but it wasn't until she gave him a bite of her green apple in front of the old IGA in Bellows Falls that sealed the deal. The lovebirds were married on July 23, 1966 in Charlestown, NH. If you knew them, you could not see one without the other. They were blessed to share almost 60 years together.

Susan worked at Kendal's/Henry's Pharmacy in Charlestown, Walpole Wire, 5-C Head Start, Walpole Beef & Vermont National Bank from where she retired following a life changing disability. She was a dedicated community member in North Walpole where she was actively involved with the Fire Department's Women's Auxiliary, St. Peter's rectory and a champion and supporter of local school projects and events as well as held office as a North Walpole Village Commissioner.

Susan's family was the center of her world. Over the years she could be found cheering on her sons, her daughter, nieces, nephews and grandkids at sporting and other events. She planned wonderful parties and summer picnics where the food was as plentiful as the love and laughter. An avid reader, she loved to bring a book to the beach, spending peaceful time with her toes in the sand and her forever sweetheart, Richard, right beside her. York Beach and Nubble Lighthouse were favorite destinations where she enjoyed taking in the sights & sounds of the beautiful Maine coastline.

Susan had a warm soul, often inviting strangers who would become friends into her home to show off her red glass and owl collections as well as her extensive seasonal and holiday decor. She took great pride in the beautiful home she and Richard brought back to life and chose to raise their family. Even if you didn't know Susan, if you lived in the area, you surely knew the house in North Walpole with the front porch that was always welcoming and beautifully decorated for each season and every holiday.

Susan was predeceased by her parents, brother Ronald "Ronnie" Martin, brother in-law Tuffy Moody and a niece, Megan Moody. She is survived by her husband Richard, her two sons Richard "Dick" Westney, Jr. (Michele) of Charlestown, NH, Shawn Westney (Tammy) of Rockingham, VT and a daughter Jennifer Marandino (Bruce) of Charlestown, NH, two sisters Deborah Wright (Bob) of Grafton, VT, Paula Martin of Rockingham, VT and a brother Richard "Ricky" Martin of Rockingham, VT, sisters in-law, brothers in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends as family. Susie also leaves behind Doreen (Libby) Manning, her best bud and partner in crime since the 4th grade. We have no doubt she will be watching over her beloved grandchildren Adam, Derek, Ashley, Lindsey, Tucker, Tyler, Emma, Benton, Jeffrey, Jacob, Owen & Hannah as well as her great grandchildren Landon, Peyton, Declan & Henry from the other side of the stars.

Loved by many, Susan (Susie) was the heart of her circle of family and friends: a dependable, ever-present source of comfort, love and encouragement. Per her wishes, there will be no services or calling hours, only a Catholic Mass at St. Charles Church at the convenience of her family. A "Susie Style" family and friends picnic to celebrate her life will be planned for sometime in July this coming summer.
