Sydney Wayne Lorandeau, March 30, 1931- August 11, 2022.  Claremont, NH

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting: "HOLY COW.............WHAT A RIDE!"

Although taken from a birthday greeting card, this spoke to Syd as a mantra to live by.  He was the epitome of "work hard play hard" and a never give up attitude.  His 91 years of journey showed us all an incredible work ethic as well as how to grab a moment with absolute commitment to the joy it might offer.  Whether at work, at play, or helping a friend, Syd's ability to immerse in living life to the fullest was observed, felt, and absorbed by others quite instantly.  A true New England Yankee, there wasn't anything that he couldn't figure out how to do; and better yet, finding someone to learn from or with whom to barter either skill or product was preferred.  It wasn't about the mastery or perfection of the outcome it was about the process, the pursuit, the pure joy of experience with others that kept his battery at full charge.

Syd attended Fisher College in Boston for business and graduated from Keene State College in NH. He was in the army during the Korean War.  He tried his hand at being a policeman, a teacher, and owner of a fish market.  He worked as a plant manager at MPB for many years.  He became Exalted Ruler of the Elks.  He co-founded a tennis club with his tennis buddies.  He enjoyed riding around in his '32 Model B Ford.  He joined the Wood-Turners Guild.  He flipped houses and became a landlord working a property management business with his son.  "Retirement" wasn't in his vocabulary.  No matter what age, the learning and the doing prevailed.

Storybooks could be written about his 65-year marriage to Carolyn Redden Lorandeau who pre-deceased him last Christmas.  Endearing tales of love, respect, banter, and fun forever.

A son, Sydney (Chuck) Lorandeau and a daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Horvath embrace the quote "My father didn't tell me how to live. He lived and let me watch him do it." Their spouses, Terri Lorandeau and AJ Horvath, were instantly immersed in Syd's world of incredible bond with family.

Grandchildren Meghan Paulette, Tory Gentes, Sydney Lorandeau, and Ally Horvath whole-heartedly concur with Marlee Paulette who fondly identifies her "Grampa-Great" as a legend.

Pre-deceased by his parents, Sydney and Helen Lorandeau, and two older sisters, Pauline Croteau and Norma Staples, Syd leaves his "little sister", Patty Woolson with an eternal watchful protective spirit.

Syd was enamored with the blessing of multiple generations of nieces and nephews, the in-laws and "outlaws" of the family, and a wonderful community of friends.  They all truly served as the IV infusion of life's medicine to Syd throughout his journey.

A celebration of life will be held at the Lorandeau residence 456 Bible Hill Road, Claremont on Sunday, September 11 ^th 2:00-4:00 pm.
