Wanita Claire Macey

Wanita Claire Macey, of Claremont, New Hampshire, passed away on October 9, 2026, at the age of 95.

Born Wanita Claire Keesler in Equinunk, Pennsylvania in 1931, she met and married Robert Macey and they eventually settled in Vermont. They would remain married for 67 years until his passing, where she built a life filled with family, friendships, and creative pursuits. Her 95 years spanned nearly a century of extraordinary change, and hers was a long and singular life.

A mother of three, Wanita was also a loving grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, holding a particularly special place in the hearts of her grandchildren, who adored and were equally adored by her.

An accomplished and prolific craftswoman, Wanita was known locally as the "Angel Lady" for the hundreds of delicate crocheted angels she created over the years. She gave them freely and happily to family, friends, acquaintances, and even strangers. Each was a small gift of her time, talent, and generosity, and together they became a remarkable and enduring expression of her spirit.

Her talents extended to knitting, crocheting, and quilt-making, crafts she practiced with great skill and care. She marked the arrival of her grandchildren with beautiful handmade quilts or afghans, gifts that remain treasured and in use to this day. There was something especially characteristic of Wanita in this generosity: the pleasure she took not only in creating something beautiful, but in sharing it with others. And that generosity extended to her kitchen, where a plate of homemade fudge was always on offer for visitors.

Her handmade angels found their way into hundreds of homes, and her quilts and afghans continue to warm the children and grandchildren who received them. Each was an expression of love, crafted by hand and freely given. Together, they form an enduring legacy of generosity, creativity, and care—one that will be treasured for generations to come.

Wanita was a woman of strong convictions and an independent spirit. She loved her family, cherished her pets, and relished every opportunity to spend time with all of them.

Wanita is survived by her three children, Linda, Wesley, and Warner; her grandchildren, Melissa, Veronica, Richard, Rob, Alicia, Eric, and Joshua; and many beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, and her seven brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Stringer's Funeral Home in Claremont, New Hampshire. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., concluding at approximately 2:30 p.m. Burial will take place immediately afterward at Union Cemetery in Claremont.

Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Wanita's life.
