Zachary "Zach" Ryan Shepard, 34, of Newport, NH, passed away unexpectedly on May 7, 2025. Born on January 9, 1991, in Claremont, New Hampshire, Zach was the beloved son of Rob and April (Vashaw) Shepard.

From a young age, Zach was drawn to the natural world. He found peace and joy in the outdoors, whether hiking through the woods, observing wildlife, or simply enjoying a quiet moment surrounded by nature. Animals held a special place in his heart, and he was known for his gentle spirit and deep compassion toward all living things.

Zach had a vibrant and curious personality, always eager to try something new. He was an avid lover and maker of craft beer, delighting in both sampling local brews and experimenting with his own creations. He enjoyed cooking as a creative outlet and was known for his adventurous palate—especially when it came to hot sauce, hot wings, chili, and experimenting with entirely new concoctions.

A passionate gamer, Zach immersed himself in a wide variety of role-playing and tabletop games. Whether he was LARPing, battling through dungeons in Dungeons & Dragons, joining friends for World of Warcraft raids, or laughing over a round of Jackbox games, Zach cherished the connections and stories forged through play. His love for gaming was not just about the games themselves but about the friendships and shared moments they created, particularly when we met his girlfriend, Caroline, LARPing.

More than anything, Zach treasured his time with family. He was a devoted uncle to his nieces, Amelia and Everly, and embraced his role with enthusiasm, affection, and a touch of playfulness. His big heart, generosity, and infectious smile made him a source of joy and comfort to those around him.

For the past several years, Zach worked for the Newport Postal Service, where he found meaning in serving his community. He often said that the best part of his job was making people smile, and he lived each day with kindness and authenticity.

Zach was predeceased by his grandparents, Henry Vashaw Sr., Barbara Vashaw, and Victor Hayward.

He is lovingly remembered by his parents, April and Rob Shepard; his grandmother, Merrily Hayward; his significant other, Caroline; his brother, Matt Shepard, and wife Angelique; his sister, Kayla (Shepard) Fitzgerald, and husband Douglas; his cherished nieces, Amelia and Everly; his honorary brothers, Matt Hilton and Tyler Hibbard; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who became family.

A celebration of Zach's life will be held at a later date. His spirit, warmth, and zest for life will be remembered always.
